On Saturday, October 19, A Tribe Called Quest will officially be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2024 during the annual induction ceremony in Cleveland. As one of hip-hop’s most influential groups, A Tribe Called Quest (ATCQ) will be honored alongside other legendary performers, including Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, and Ozzy Osbourne.
The ceremony will feature a star-studded performance, with surviving members Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White being joined by a lineup of iconic artists including Busta Rhymes, The Roots, Queen Latifah, De La Soul, Common, and Spliff Star. The late Phife Dawg, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 45, will also be honored during the tribute.
A Tribe Called Quest’s Enduring Influence
ATCQ’s induction into the Rock Hall comes as a fitting tribute to their lasting impact on hip-hop and music culture. Rising to prominence as part of the Native Tongues collective — a group that emphasized collaboration and creative unity — ATCQ's influence can be heard across generations of hip-hop. Their unique blend of thoughtful, Afrocentric rhymes and jazz-inflected rhythms paved the way for future artists who sought to challenge the status quo.
The inclusion of Busta Rhymes in the performance is particularly significant. His explosive verse on ATCQ’s 1992 hit “Scenario” helped launch his career, cementing him as one of the most dynamic voices in hip-hop. Similarly, De La Soul and Queen Latifah were instrumental in the Native Tongues movement, appearing alongside Q-Tip and Phife Dawg on tracks like the 1989 remix of “Buddy”, further strengthening the bonds between these pioneering artists.
A Collaborative Celebration
The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony will highlight the interconnectedness of ATCQ and their collaborators. The Roots, whose drummer Questlove adopted his name in homage to the group, will join the performance. Questlove has long credited A Tribe Called Quest as a major inspiration, particularly for their innovative fusion of hip-hop and jazz. The relationship between Q-Tip and Common will also be celebrated, as the two have collaborated on multiple occasions, including on Common’s 1997 album “One Day It’ll All Make Sense.”
Additionally, Spliff Star, known for his high-energy stage presence, has performed “Scenario” alongside Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip, adding an electrifying dynamic to the already star-packed performance lineup.
Rock Hall Class of 2024
A Tribe Called Quest enters the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after being nominated three times. The group's induction in 2024 not only celebrates their contribution to music but also the cultural significance they hold within hip-hop. Joining them in the performers category are Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, and Ozzy Osbourne.
Fans can watch the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony live on Disney+ on October 19 at 7 p.m. ET, with an edited primetime special airing on ABC on January 1, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET.
